What brought you to enduraLAB? My counselor/mentor/friend Lee Long! (Everyone needs to go to counseling, it's awesome). Lee told me there was a gym in town that loved people at all fitness stages. As soon as he said there were people there I was sold. (I love seeing people haha)
What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB? I was a part of an amazing CrossFit gym before coming to the LAB. I learned form and how to do Olympic lifts there and then moved on to the LAB. I fell in love with the programming here after my first three days.
What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB? I’m certainly more aware of my body in terms of rest and recovery. I love the recovery part maybe a little too much sometimes :).
Tell us what you do outside of the LAB? I’m a husband, a father, and pastor. I love eating new places and spending as much time with other humans as physically possible.
How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little. Lots of PRs at the LAB, especially lately! I’m a more competitive athlete for sure. I would say I’ve grown most in just listening to my body. I used to pretty recklessly toil at the gym and the LAB has focused my energy to a more functional and habits based training.
What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months? I think post-covid a good goal for me is to go 6 months with 3-4 times a week at the gym. I have a baby on the way so maintaining consistency is going to be key for me. Also I would like to beat Holden again in one workout and get 5 new people to the lab :).
What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program? Buds and Suds and the Memorial Day Murph tie for first. If we brought BBQ back to Murph it would probably be first again. (Get Daynes this time!)
What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB? Pick a class. Meet a person. Keep going. I know it’s tough to put yourself out there at a gym, but you won’t regret shaking a hand, making a friend, and then seeing that person consistently through the week. Relationships are the best motivator.
Favorite cheat meal/restaurant in D/FW? Sooo hard. Lili’s on Magnolia is really hard to beat. I've never had a bad meal there, and the doughnuts are just so amazing.
Current read / podcast? I’m reading a book called “Preaching That Speaks to Women” and it’s pretty sweet.
Any final words or thoughts? I love the LAB. I love the people. I love the programming. I love the coaches. I love Lee and Isis. It’s just a slice of heaven in Fort Worth. I’m beyond grateful for what you provide to this city. It’s life changing. Thank you.
