Kamran is student at UNT Health Science Center, former basketball player and foodie. When searching for a gym, it was important that he could get an efficient workout within his busy school schedule. His favorite training at the gym so far has been the Murph prep that focused on simple bodyweight movements. He says one of the best parts of enduraLAB is experiencing the community and that it will make you "never want to go back to a commercial gym." Read more below.
What brought you to enduraLAB?
Honestly, I was looking for a gym with a class-based schedule that would be easy to attend. When I did some research and stumbled upon enduraLAB, the strength/conditioning classes were a no-brainer for me. Strength and conditioning are always my goals as someone with a basketball background. The fact that this gym was locally-owned was a huge plus.
What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB?
I did a lot of trail running/walking. I would strength train at a commercial gym often, but my workouts there were never very efficient. The LAB brings next-level coaching and routines.
What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB?
I’ve always been a pretty healthy eater, but one change that I’ve really emphasized since joining the LAB has been sleeping. If I’m investing in a great workout routine at EnduraLAB, I need to ensure my muscles and body recover well.
Tell us what you do outside of the LAB?
Outside of the LAB, I am a medical student at UNT Health Science Center, which is not far away at all. I like to spend time with my friends here (usually exploring new restaurants with them) and I visit my family in the Houston area often whenever I get free weekends.
How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little.
I have ran my fastest mile in six years — while becoming stronger in nearly every lift.
What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months?
My goal is to consistently attend the LAB 4x/week. If I make my goal something that I can easily control, like simply showing up, the gains will follow.
What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program?
This would have to be the Murph training Mondays that took place earlier this spring. They were simple, but brutal, and were for a great cause.
What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB?
Just show up and don’t overthink some things. The coaches are phenomenal, and the people here are super friendly. No one will judge you if you need to scale down a prescribed weight. Everyone here just wants to see you achieve your goals and give it your all.
If we had a workout in honor of you, what would it be called and what would it consist of?
It would have to consist of something high-intensity but not as compound-movement based. Something similar to the Summer Shredding programming!
Favorite treat meal/restaurant in D/FW?
Beef fajitas from Pappasitos, all-you-can-eat sushi at Sushi Soho, or the Hot Bastard burger at Rodeo Goat.
Current read / podcast?
Lately, my favorite podcasts have been ‘Fareed Zakaria GPS’ and ‘The Jordan B. Peterson Podcast.’ I like learning about current events and psychology.
Pump up song?
When my workout has me wanting to quit, the best pump-up song has traditionally been ‘Who Gon Stop Me’ - by Jay-Z and Kanye West.
Any final words or thoughts?
One of the best parts of enduraLAB is the community and the people you become friends with over time by going to the same class times. Once you experience it, you never want to go back to a commercial gym.
