Meet Bailey McGuire, December Member of the Month

What brought you to enduraLAB? A friend recruited me to enduraLAB in November of 2018. My 2nd week at the gym was Hell Week, and I barely survived. I know many of the new members here for Holiday Hustle just experienced the same thing and I can tell you it gets better. Now that I have completed my 3rd Hell Week, my confidence grows each year; maybe because I know now to skip Manslaughter…

What did your workout routine look like before joining the LAB? I have always enjoyed working out and have tried to have an active lifestyle. My wife is active as well and has been teaching yoga in Fort Worth since 2013. I used to work out in the gym often but my wife convinced me to give yoga a try to improve flexibility. So for the year before joining the LAB I did that and cardio. I was looking to get back into strength building when I discovered enduraLAB.

What healthy changes have you made since joining the LAB? My goal for working out is to be able to eat what I want. I am not an unhealthy eater but I want to be able to eat what looks good. So I work out to justify eating French fries multiple times a week. Since joining the LAB my workout routines are much more structured. I try to plan my day around my workout which has helped me exercise more regularly and helped my overall balance.

Tell us what you do outside of the LAB? I am a husband to Kristin and a Father to a 9 year old daughter and 7 year old son. We are busy with kid’s sports most evenings and weekends and we try to travel whenever we are free. I am an avid skier in the winter and Fly Fisherman whenever possible. Professionally I have an investment management company that focuses on real estate and venture investments.

How have you grown as an athlete since joining the LAB? Brag a little. My endurance has improved significantly. I am finally to the point where I have the confidence to start a difficult cardio workout knowing I can finish it strong. I don’t dread running like I used to and I am even starting to enjoy rowing.

What is a goal you have set for yourself in the next 6 months? I need to learn double unders… It is the thing that frustrates me the most at the LAB. I am terrible at them which bugs me because I feel like I am good at jumping rope. So I will make that my goal and I know the coaches will hold me to it.

What is your favorite enduraLAB event or program? Strength and Conditioning is my go to but I also want to try some of the other programs in the next year. I did enjoy the summer track series and getting out and running on the field and track.

What advice would you have for a new person starting at enduraLAB? I am a competitive person and it is very easy to get caught trying to keep up with the athletes around you or always trying to turn in a RX score. Isis and the team have finally taught me to execute the workout my body needs that day. Lift the weight that is right for you or make the modifications you need and keep track so you can improve each time.

Favorite cheat meal/restaurant in D/FW? Clay Pigeon with my wife or wings and fries on my couch.

Current read / podcast? Currently listening to Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey and it is much better than I thought it would be.

Pump up song? Basket Case – Green Day

Any final words or thoughts? I appreciate the positive attitudes I experience every time I enter the gym. I feel great physically following a workout but enjoy the people and the atmosphere just as much. I am excited that enduraLAB will be a part of my goals for 2022.
