All Calories Are Not Created Equal

A calorie is a calorie is a calorie. Right? Wrong! Calories come from macro nutrients, which are metabolized differently. For example, it takes the body more energy to break down a protein than it does a carbohydrate or a fat. Calories coming from naturally-occurring whole foods will benefit the body and aid in digestion.

Speaking of calories, although numbers on food labels may seem scientific, they're just approximations. And even if we know exactly how many calories are going into the body (which we usually don't), it's very hard to know exactly how many we will absorb and use. This means that for the most part, precise calorie counting won't help you.
