Memorial Day Murph 2016

  • enduraLAB

All regularly scheduled classes will be cancelled on Memorial Day, Monday May 30th. We’ll be running the workout “Murph” at 10AM in remembrance of military personnel who have died in service.

“Murph”

For time:

1 mile Run

100 Pull-ups

200 Push-ups

300 Squats

1 mile Run

Partition the pull-ups, push-ups, and squats as needed. Start and finish with a mile run. If you’ve got a twenty pound vest or body armor, wear it. We'll also have a modified version for anyone who might not be up for the challenge...this year.

A cookout will follow the workout so we hope you stay around to have a burger, brat or beer!

There is no fee for this event but we encourage participants to register at http://themurphchallenge.com/

This workout was created in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005.

This workout was one of Mike’s favorites and he’d named it “Body Armor”. From here on it will be referred to as “Murph” in honor of the focused warrior and great American who wanted nothing more in life than to serve this great country and the beautiful people who make it what it is.

FROM COACH LEE:

We'll jump start the clinic with a video of your current running gate and go over the different run form methods, pros and cons of each and how to find the optimal run form for you. We'll then show you the skills and drills, with progressions, to help you become a more efficient runner.

After we break for lunch (provided) we will discuss the evolution of the running shoe design, the relationship to injury and how to pick the right shoe for you. We'll cover the common injuries that runners will face in their career and show you how and what to do to prevent them in the following workshop addressing strength training, range of motion/mobility and stability. We'll end the day with a discussion of nutrition/hydration for health and performance and analyze the morning's video.

TESTIMONIALS:

"This was a fantastic use of my time. I especially enjoyed Lee's clear explanations, practical demonstrations, and candid comments about shoes and the most important aspects of the technics of running." - Lisa

"The clinic did a great job of piecing together the concepts in a way that made them all relate to each other and the whole running process. Really enjoyed seeing how mobility, stability, and strength plays a huge role in running efficiency. While we get tidbits during class, the clinic connected all the dots and added details to make more sense out of each part." - Diane

"I went from a major "T-Rex" heel-striker, where every time I hit the ground everything would shake, to an efficient forefoot striker. Everything started feeling better and I started getting faster." - Lee

Before slam balls, battle ropes or sleds there was the old school conditioning tool, the jump rope. Now a highly under-utilized training tool, the jump rope can accelerate fat loss, increase coordination and athleticism and produce unreal conditioning. Not only will we give you the reasons to pull out the old speed rope, we're going to show you how to do it properly, give you progressions to get your first double under and help you choose the proper size and weight for your own rope.

The clinic is scheduled for two hours. Participants will need to dress in athletic clothing appropriate for workouts, and bring drinks/snacks as needed. At the end of the clinic you will be able to order your own custom jump rope from RXSmartGear (price of jump rope is not included in the registration fee).

KinesioTape Clinic with Dr. Bronson Lester

Most of the time you need a health care professional to assist with your applications of ROCKTAPE, but we are bringing in a qualified professional, Dr. Lester, to coach you through some basics. You’ll be able to not only tape yourself, but you’ll know how to correctly tape your workout buddies!

The class will be ‘hands on’ and interactive. Dr. Lester will go through the most common injuries and taping methods associated with runners, lifters, and rowers.

Some additional information on ROCKTAPE:

ROCKTAPE is a performance enhancement tape and is designed for  endurance athletes that want a little edge in their game. ROCKTAPE helps athletes manage fatigue by promoting better circulation. All you have do is put ROCKTAPE on the areas on your body that need a little help and you can go longer and harder.

ROCKTAPE can also be used to stabilize muscles and joints that have been sprained or hurt. Unlike braces and sleeves that constrain and reduce blood flow, ROCKTAPE can provide support and stability while increasing blood flow. Thus, the tape's capabilities make it well suited to the repair of localized muscle groups.

ROCKTAPE can be used to reduce swelling in an area, post injury. By allowing more blood flow in and out of the effected tissues. It’s amazing how well it works....it kind of Rocks. ;)

TESTIMONIALS

“The LAB and the challenge has changed me as a person.  I feel healthier, happier, and more confident.  I have incredible coaches who have given me some very intense training.  The coaches have pushed me in every area, and I have truly seen the results.  I feel more confident in my workouts and with my long distance runs.  Working out at the LAB has given me a drive to become better and to work harder in everything that I do, not only at the gym but also in my daily routines.  It has become a very important part of my life and I hope that others will take advantage of such an awesome opportunity." -Priscila D.

"I decided to sign up for the standard after my first time working out at enduraLAB. I really enjoyed my first strength class and thought it was exactly what I needed to get inspired and challenged to see some changes and meet my goals. I also really liked the coaching and motivation and saw it as a good way to meet new people and be part of a community outside of school and work.  -Alex L.

"The short story is that the lab has been a life changer for me.  Lost 30 pounds. Went from running 29 minute to a 20 minute 5k.  Made a bunch of new friends.  Improved blood chemistry. Getting ready to run my first Marathon. Simple Greatness." -Paul V.
