MARIA CAPUA

What brought you to enduraLAB in the first place?
After having 2 babies and a with an upcoming trip to Hawaii I decided I needed to do something to get myself back. I "won" a session of enduraLAB boot camp at a school fundraiser and it was exactly what I needed.

What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I didn't know what to expect. I knew I had no idea how to do a squat, push-up, pull-up, you name it, let alone ever touched a real weight lifting bar. The coaches were patient and helpful and the members were encouraging and supportive. Now I walk into class and don't need a decoder ring to understand the workout.

What was your first breakthrough moment?
There was one especially tough week when I felt like I couldn't do anything.  I remember leaving the gym and crying in the car to my brother. It's frustrating to feel like the only one who struggles in class and to always finish last. After my pity party I realized I should be proud of myself for learning something new every time I enter LAB.  I was lucky to have found a place with genuinely kind members who both challenge and cheer me on to finish each workout.  I conquered the next week with a renewed confidence and haven't stopped since.

What are you working on now?
Where do I start?  Mastering a proper push-up, landing like a feather in box jumps, surviving the Power Cycle, learning to love wall balls.

What’s your favorite enduraLAB memory?
When Staci told me my arms looked good. She saw me on day 1 so it was a real compliment.

What's your profession?
I'm a Mom. After traveling the world with a global marketing job I loved, I realized that being home with our two young girls was the right choice for our family.  So, for now, I do laundry, cook dinner, shuttle kids; and it's the greatest job on Earth.

Which do you prefer: Dogs or Cats?
Dogs. One day we'll have two if my husband and I can agree on which breed.

Favorite workout song?
"Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" by Michael Jackson

Favorite cheat meal?
I'm vegan so I usually behave, but I can't say no to french fries.

Where did you go to college?
University of Notre Dame, Go Irish!

What brought you to enduraLAB in the first place?
I was a client of Sammy's for several years at Fazeke's.  The gym sold to Indigo Yoga and we were gymless. I found a neighborhood gym to do some traditional lifting but my consistency of workouts dwindled.  Sammy had tried to convince me to come to the Lab several times and finally I agreed to check it out in May of 2016.

What was your first impression? How has that changed?
I was was hesitant to come in for so long because I thought it was just another Crossfit Box. Sammy, Ashley Mazur and Steve Willmann had somewhat convinced me otherwise and so I decided to give it a go.  I can't remember the first several workout but I know that we were in the middle of an endurance/cardio block.  This is the type of workout that I love.  Some crazy cardio along with a little strength training. Not much has changed from my initial impression.  I still see the coaches and Lee trying to constantly make the gym (and us) a better place.

What was your first breakthrough moment?
There have been a lot, but I would say the most recent one was running the Cowtown half marathon in 1:48 with very few training runs (5 or 6 Saturday runs total).  All the strength training and heavy lifting (especially lower body) combined with the crazy rowing, skiing, and airdyne work that we do more than prepared me for the run.  It made me realize that building a solid base through cross-training can help all aspects of your overall fitness.

What are you working on now?
At Fazeke's we did a lot of bro workouts.  A lot of upper body stuff and very little lower body. I constantly strive to get stronger with deadlifts, front squats and back squats.  My form always needs to be checked but I am trusting the sytstem.

What’s your favorite enduraLAB memory?
I love the team workouts.  In the 5 and 6 am classes we have a lot of people that are not only consistent with showing up but a lot of fun to be around.  It makes waking up daily at 4am that much easier knowing that others you respect in the gym are headed up there with you.

What's your profession?
Oral/Maxillofacial Surgeon

Which do you prefer: Dogs or Cats?
100% dog guy.

Favorite workout song?
Any type of EDM.

Favorite cheat meal?
Pretty sure all of my meals classify as a cheat meal but if I have to pick a favorite it would be any type of Mexican food.
